2018 Tax Credit for Windows and Doors

If you are replaced a window or door in 2017, you’ll be able to benefit from congressional legislation passed in February. With Energy Star qualifying products, you’ll be able to get up to $500 in tax credits for 2017 tax years.

HOW TO QUALIFY

To qualify for this credit, you must have purchased qualifying replacement windows, entry doors, or patio doors in 2017 and use IRS Form 5695 to calculate your credit. The credit is 10% of the product cost up to $200 for windows and $500 for exterior doors with a $500-lifetime cap. There is no guarantee that this credit will be available in the future, so if you are thinking of doing a project, there has never been a better time.

ENERGY STAR CHANGES

On January 1, 2016, Energy Star 6.0 went into effect. The Energy Star rating requirements have been tightened to once again challenge manufacturers to create the most efficient products for specific climate zones in the U.S. In Madison, we fall into the Northern climate zone which requires a U-Factor of ≤0.27. Fortunately, with a Restorations window or Waudena Millwork entry door from Thebco, we can easily meet this requirement with most of our products because we have the most energy efficient established window in the market.
