How Much Do Replacement Windows Cost?

Understanding replacement window discounts, promotions & financing

One of the very first questions people ask us when they turn to THEBCO Windows & Doors is, “how much are my windows going to cost?”

It’s no surprise. Our industry is filled with promotions, gimmicks, and special “limited time offer sales.” It can be a confusing process. At THEBCO, we hope to reverse the conversation by starting with education and by gaining an understanding of your project goals to make sure that the purchase makes sense for you and for your family! No pressure, just helpful advice.

Here are some key questions we are asked and some answers to help you better grasp the financial costs of your new replacement windows, as well as the value they can add to your home!

How much does it cost to replace my windows?

We recommend first consulting the Cost Vs Value Report from Remodeling Magazine for cost estimates. There are a lot of factors to consider, specifically the style and material used, but the typical 2,000 square foot house with a mid-range product begins in the $20,100 range for furnishing and installation of your new windows. If you upgrade your windows or downgrade to a less expensive window, pricing and quality will change accordingly. If you use a less qualified installer or try to do-it-yourself, you’ll see savings on the front end, but won’t necessarily experience the energy savings you would with proper window installation. Even the best, most expensive windows, when installed improperly, will cost you money over time if it leaks.

Do you mark windows up just to put them on sale?

Absolutely not. Our Restorations windows don’t even allow us to run certain “sales” because they don’t want to deflate the value of their product. Instead, we aim to provide a higher added value with our certified, warrantied installation services, and large window selection.

Are there hidden costs or gimmicks in your “sale” pricing?

No. We only run a few select promotions each year rather than a revolving door of different discounts that “bait” you in the door. We try to make them easy to understand with clear restrictions. All disclaimers are listed on our website for both current and previous promotions. We believe in transparency, so if you have a question, simply reach out to us and we’ll follow-up.

Is financing available for my replacement windows?

Yes! We offer everyday financing from Enerbank. There are a variety of programs such as No Interest, No Payment plans for shorter-term financing, 0% Interest plans for mid-length financing, and reduced interest rates for longer-term financing.

Can I use a home equity line of credit to buy replacement windows?

Absolutely. While THEBCO offers financing programs like Enerbank, many homeowners seek a home equity line of credit with their bank for improvements such as window replacements. Talk to your local banker about your options to leverage the existing equity in your home!

Will I get a return on my window investment if I am selling my home?

Real estate and remodeling experts suggest that while you won’t get a full return on your window investment when you sell your home, it’s one of the top rated categories to upgrade from both U.S. News and World Report as well as Remodeling Magazine, who suggests that vinyl replacement windows have a 74% return on investment, and wood windows average a 73% return on investment. Bottom line, if you are planning to sell your home, let us know and we’ll make sure you choose a product that will perform well and look great to the new owners, without breaking the bank for you as you prepare to sell your home!

Will my new windows pay for themselves?

Great question. If installed correctly, windows will absolutely achieve energy savings. There are a few variables to consider:

  1. What windows are you replacing and how are they currently performing?
  2. What window quality are you choosing to put in your home?
  3. What are you willing to invest in energy saving upgrades (i.e. triple pane glass)?
  4. Are you using proper installation methods to maximize window performance?
  5. How efficiently does your family/home use your heating and cooling systems?

The great news is that as Wisconsin residents, we recoup our savings more quickly than in other areas of the country. Perhaps it’s the one and only benefit to our icy cold winter weather! An independent study by ENERGY STAR showed that replacing existing single pane windows with new ENERGY STAR rated windows in a 1,700 square foot one-story home with natural gas, heat, and electric air conditioning can save as much as $409/year in Wisconsin.

Fun Fact: Want to recoup your investment faster? Move to Alaska!

AVERAGE ANNUAL COST SAVINGS WHEN REPLACING SINGLE PANE WINDOWS

Madison, Wisconsin: $409/year
Fairbanks, Alaska: $1,025/year
San Francisco, California: $64/year
